Tyndrum
Our West Highland Way walk begins in Tyndrum.
We overnighted in Edinburgh so spent the afternoon having a look around.
The castle is austere in comparison to some of the fancy-pants ones we have visited.
Edinburgers enjoying a sunny afternoon in Princes Street Gardens, which is right downtown below the castle. The good thing about this photo is that you can't hear the bag pipe buskers.
We visited an outdoor sports shop to upgrade our socks. Chatting to the assistant about our upcoming walk he put us on to a site that provides midge forecasts. The midge is Scotland's equivalent of our sandfly and seems to part of every hiking conversation. I'm packing Avon Skin So Soft, an accidental solution to the problem allegedly used by the SAS no less.
The train journey to Tyndrum has us excited about the walk ahead.
This is where we start.
